The Times’ deputy political editor, Steven Swinford, reports
“Looks like a compromise is in the offing over General Election. Govt is tabling it’s one-line bill with stating that an election will be held on December 12th. But it is open to an amendment stating that it should be held on December 11th. Will the Lib Dems and SNP bite?
Sounds like opposition parties are open to a General Election on Wednesday, December 11th. Barring some extraordinary last-minute shenanigans (entirely possible in this place) it looks like we’re on for the first December election since 1923.”
It looks like Johnson and his team are trying to bridge the gap but as noted above, will the SNP and Lib Dems buy into the idea that he won’t try and push through a Brexit deal before parliament is dissolved?
